LanguageLoop welcomes the $65.2 million Budget support for older multicultural Australians

CALD Multilingual people

LanguageLoop welcomes the Federal Government’s $65.2 million investment into translating and interpreting services to help culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) Australians access and navigate the aged care system.

Elizabeth Compton, LanguageLoop’s CEO, said this increased funding into multilingual communications will provide greater access to the 75,000 CALD Australians trying to navigate a complex system, let alone where English is not your first language.

“With 300 languages spoken in Australian homes, COVID really was a catalyst for governments at all levels and businesses—especially those delivering essential services— to focus on interpreting and translation services to enable equal access to critical health, travel and economic related information,” Ms Compton said.

“This significant increase in funding to ensure our elderly and often vulnerable CALD Australians, can understand and participate in their own care is a positive step to ensuring all people and families are listened to, taken care of and can make informed decisions.”
