Australia’s leading language services provider, LanguageLoop, has opened applications for their annual Research and Innovation Grants Program.

As a Government Business Enterprise, LanguageLoop were created with a mission to ensure access and equity to services for all, and continuously invest in the language services sector to ensure the ongoing sustainability of the industry.

Previous grant winner includes Monash University, who undertook research to develop mental health guidelines for interpreters working in mental health settings.

The guidelines for interpreters studied the outcomes of interpreters and psychologists working together to achieve better mental health outcomes for culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) patients.

LanguageLoop CEO Elizabeth Compton said the insights are key to overcoming language barriers and will assist interpreters to become better skilled to ensure mental health services are accessible for all.

“Through these Australian-first guidelines, LanguageLoop in partnership with Monash University are shedding light on the immediate need for CALD communities to access mental health services without barriers, drawing attention to the importance of interpreters’ work in this field,” Ms Compton said.

The Research and Innovation Grants are open to individuals and organisations, both public and private. LanguageLoop expects there may be particular interest from not-for-profits, educational institutions, academics, community groups and local government.
