Meet Ning Wang, LanguageLoop’s Translator of the Month for January 2020.

Ning, born in Shanghai, China, has been a translator in Australia for 18 years. First living in China then Africa, Ning now calls Australia home.

Having a strong interest in both English and Chinese languages in school, Ning’s passion for language reflected his high language scores at university, and Ning decided to stick with what he was good at.

Now working for LanguageLoop, Ning’s been a total powerhouse, translating English to Simplified Chinese across the majority of LanguageLoop’s key clients.

One of Ning’s biggest projects included translating all of the exhibition and artwork descriptions for the ‘Chinese Fortunes’ exhibition at the Museum of Australian Democracy at Eureka (MADE) which explored individual stories of Chinese Australians and the rich diversity of Chinese-Australian history leading up to Federation. Ning worked on the project over a period of 4 months and is one of his favourite projects to date.

Having worked in the industry for almost two decades, Ning believes the biggest challenge as a translator is maintaining the language.

“Although NAATI’s recertification system helps me remain active and committed to this profession, technology has improved speed and accuracy, and is changing the way translators work,” Ning said.

“Innovative platforms like LanguageLoop’s cloud-based translation management system will increase translator productivity and efficiency, allowing us to translate information more accurately and efficiently.”

Working with LanguageLoop for 18 years, Ning enjoys the creativity and flexibility of being a translator.

“For anyone looking to become a translator I think it’s important to really enjoy reading and writing – because that’s how I started and I’ve never looked back.”
