Exciting Interpreter Professional Development Initiative for working in Queensland Courts

LanguageLoop is pleased to announce an Australian-first professional development course designed to familiarise interpreters with the nuances and intricacies of the Queensland court system. In collaboration with Queensland Courts Service, interpreters will have the opportunity to expand their professional skills and confidence in the legal system, and gain NAATI professional development points.

“LanguageLoop is to be congratulated on taking such a targeted initiative”, says Jim Duncan, Operations Manager for NAATI Queensland.“It is to be commended.”

CEO of NAATI, Mark Painting was equally impressed with LanguageLoop’s initiative in developing this much needed course. “This is an amazingly enriched learning experience that will accelerate interpreters’ abilities to develop professional skills for servicing the Queensland Courts. A one of kind program in Australia. LanguageLoop is to be commended for taking the initiative,” he says.

LanguageLoop is collaborating with Paul Ramage, Executive Manager, Queensland Courts Service,to present this immersive experience in a mock court setting for our interpreters. The first three courses will take place in Brisbane on the 2nd, 5th and 9th of September, and will focus on the business of the courts, court protocols and etiquette including expectations and protocols for interpreters in a court setting. The format includes a presentation initially, leading into a mock trail experience followed by Q&A.

“LanguageLoop is proud to be in a position to work directly with our clients and NAATI to develop much needed professional development courses for our interpreters”, says Liz Compton, CEO LanguageLoop. “Our goal is to ensure our interpreters are always supported in their work and perform at their best.”

This is part of LanguageLoop’s continuous investment into the industry; collaborating with partners to deliver professional development opportunities, offering a substantial innovation fund and supporting language services based research projects at universities.
